Charles,
It worked for me, but I had to do it every time I opened IE. I wonder if there is a way to make ''run as administrator'' permanent. Thanks for the help - way to go.

Charles,
As suggested in the Vista Admin group, I uninstalled Java 5 version 7, and all seems well. I then went here:
http://www.javatester.org/version.html
and found out I was running Java version 1.1.4 from Microsoft
I have no idea how or why this whole deal played out - UNLESS Vista came with a Java deal that conflicted with the Java I already had on the machine<G>
For now - all seems well - I just went to my VISA card site and sure enough, I owe them the same amount I did before I installed Vista this morning. Life is good....................................................<G>

Well, resetting IE settings from Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset Internet Explorer Settings saved my IE. And it's not really secure (well, not secure at all) to launch IE as Administrator. It doesn't need these rights.
